Riley County Police arrested a Junction City man early Sunday morning for a litany of drug-related violations. Matthew Schoettle (26) was picked up in the 2200 Seth Child Road shortly after midnight and charged with distribution of a controlled substance and possession of opiates among others. The Kansas Supreme Court says that if its most recent education funding ruling results in public schools closing, it will be because legislators did not comply with an earlier order. The high court Friday rejected some education funding changes enacted by the Republican-dominated Legislature. The justices said in an unsigned order that lawmakers did not fully comply with an order in February to improve funding for poor schools. TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court on Friday rejected some education funding changes enacted by the Legislature earlier this year and threatened to order the state’s public schools closed if lawmakers don’t act by June 30. A Junction City man waived his preliminary hearing this past week in Geary County Court in a child pornography case. Dale Holvorson is now set for arraignment before Judge Steven Hornbaker but is expected to enter into a plea agreement June 17th. Holvorson was arrested in March of this year on 14 counts of distribution of child pornography and 20 counts of possession of child porn. Police responded to a report of a theft at 101 East Bluemont Street, in Manhattan on May 26th, 2016 at approximately 7:21 PM. Wal-Mart was listed as the victim after miscellaneous clothing items were taken from the business. Jeremy Harper, 37, of Manhattan was arrested in conjunction with this incident. CHAPMAN — Residents in northern Kansas are cleaning up the damage from an EF4 tornado that ripped through the rural area earlier this week. Tom and Janet Whitehair’s Dickinson County home was among about 20 homes damaged or destroyed by the half-mile-wide tornado that was on the ground for about 90 minutes Wednesday night. No serious injuries or fatalities were reported. Whitehair told the Topeka Capital-Journal he and his wife are “lucky to be alive.” The National Weather Service says the tornado had wind speeds up to 180 mph.
