Manhattan City Commissioners approved $3.02 million for Anneberg Park improvements Tuesday night in City Hall. The improvements will include new synthetic turf athletic fields and lighting. Bayer Construction Company, Inc., of Manhattan will receive $2,096, 116.10 to construct bases for the new fields, while Shaw Sports Turf of Calhoun, Ga., will receive $549,747 for the synthetic turf construction. Olsson Associates of Manhattan will receive $46,445 for engineering services for the project. Funding for these improvements will be from the Special Parks and Recreation Fund and alcohol tax revenues. Judge David Stutzman heard testimony from crime scene investigators during the pre-trial hearing in the case of Derik Kesler Tuesday afternoon at the Riley County District Courthouse. Kesler, a 33-year-old Rossville man, is facing a vehicular homicide charge involving an accident that took the life of a 49-year-old Manhattan bicyclist. A Westmoreland man facing attempted second degree murder and aggravated battery charges made a first appearance Tuesday in Pottawatomie county District court. Travis Conder, 28, was appointed counsel and a status hearing is set for September first. Conder is currently out of jail on $100,000 bond. Conder was arrested a few weeks ago after a shooting in Westmoreland. Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s deputies found two individuals who lived in the 100 block of South fourth Street in Westmoreland early on a Sunday morning, suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Conder was located outside the residence and was taken into custody without incident.
