As the spring semester nears its end at K-State, students will soon depart Manhattan leaving behind a trail of furniture. Friday marks the city of Manhattan’s first Spring Furniture Amnesty Day. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., those in the community wanting to unload unwanted furniture can drop it off at the Baker Field parking lot in City Park. The K-State Federal Credit Union will have a brand new location by next year. Director of Marketing and Business Development Angie Reed tells KMAN the credit union’s ground-breaking at 601 McCall Road signified a new chapter in the K-State Federal Credit Union’s history. He was arrested for a DUI and Criminal Damage to property Wednesday evening, but shortly after posting bail a Manhattan man became the victim of a vehicle burglary. 22-year-old Trace Hart says his vehicle was entered while parked at 3313 Valleydale Drive in Manhattan – resulting in the theft of a handgun. Prior to the incident, Hart was taken into custody and held on an $8,000.00 bond before being released. The Wamego City Commission approved proposals on several projects. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page introduced the amendment to the security project proposal for architect services from Architect Bruce McMillan. Page reviewed the proposal for the pre-qualification fee structure, which involved additional cost to the original proposal. McMillan said all the contractors are pre-qualified, which adds a level of security for the staff by having contractors that are qualified to work with the type of security products of this project. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) A former police officer for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, is accused of sexually abusing two girls in Kansas. The Kansas City Star reports 38-year-old Sean Acree of Mission, Kansas, was arrested Monday and was being held in the Johnson County jail on $250,000 bond. He is charged with five felony counts, including aggravated indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties. A Veterans Affairs spokesman says Acree had been a training sergeant for the VA police but resigned last month. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday and is scheduled…
SALINA, Kan. (AP) Saline County and a former interim director of the Saline County Health Department have reached a $75,000 settlement over a sexual discrimination claim. The Salina Journal reports the county said Tuesday that it denied liability associated with the claim, and that it would allow its insurance company to resolve the matter to avoid further litigation costs. Suzette Brotton filed a claim against the Salina Human Relations Commission after it chose Bronson Farmer to direct the health department in 2014.
