MANHATTAN, KAN. – On July 14, 2015 at approximately 11:30 AM officers with the Riley County Police Department responded to a vehicle collision. This collision occurred near the intersection of College Ave. and Claflin Rd. Police found that a 2006 Chevy Impala driven by James Eickman, 67, of Manhattan while traveling south on College attempted to turn right onto Claflin Road when it collided with a 2007 Kia Spectra driven by Charmeachealle Moore, 22, of Manhattan. Update 9:50: All power in Manhattan has been restored, according to a Westar Energy representative. Update 9:30 AM: A Westar Energy representative tells KMAN less than 20 people in Manhattan are without power. Westar expects all power to be restored by mid-morning. Power was was knocked out around 6 am for about 2,000 residents after a tree branch was knocked down by the storm at 15th and Colorado Street.
The Manhattan City Commission worked well into Tuesday evening going over their options for the proposed 2016 budget. During the work session, commissioners heard a presentation from Hillary Badger, the city’s assistant director of finance, who covered everything from road upkeep costs to utilities. Badger’s presentation covered what would ultimately be the decision factors for the commission’s final budget publication being released soon. The Kansas Highway Patrol is reporting two injury accidents in area counties Tuesday evening. Flora Riley, 18, of Manhattan was taken to Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan following an accident in Wabaunsee County. Riley was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima westbound on I-70 when for an unknown reason Riley lost control and went into the center median. The vehicle rolled into the eastbound lanes of I-70, coming to rest on the driver’s side. The accident was reported at 5:15 p.m. 10 miles west of Topeka. Riley was wearing a seat belt. (AP) Wichita police say users of automated teller machines at three Intrust Bank locations should check their accounts for suspicious activity after someone installed skimmers to gain access to their credit card and debit card numbers.
