Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins said his department relies on volunteer firefighters. “People call 9-1-1 and in the city you know you’re going to get a response. Tuesday morning, U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), a member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, along with U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) announced that the Fiscal Year 2015 Homeland Security Appropriations Bill was approved with bipartisan support by the Senate Homeland Security Subcommittee on Appropriations. The bill includes $300 million for construction of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), an amount equal to the funding requested in the President’s FY2015 Budget and builds on the $404 million appropriated for the construction of NBAF in FY2014. A Missouri woman entered a no contest plea in Pottawatomie County District court Monday to felony fleeing and eluding. Ashley Gillispie, 28, of Higbee, Missouri now faces a July 17th sentencing. Remaining misdemeanor charges against Gillispie were dismissed. Gillispie was involved in a two-county chase a few weeks ago with law enforcement after a traffic stop by a Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s deputy on the Oregon Trail Road, about three miles west of St. Mary’s.
