The Manhattan City Commission awarded a contract for the construction of a 1 million-gallon elevated water tower that will provide water to the US 24 Corridor/Blue Township area. The roughly $1.7 million contract was awarded to Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors of Avon, Indiana. The project stems from Interim and Inter-local Agreements between the City of Manhattan and Pottawatomie County Rural Water District No. 1. The RWD will be solely responsible for all costs associated with the water storage tank and all associated engineering services. Almost two years after an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, Libya that left four Americans dead including Ted Stevens, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, the first of those suspects was apprehended this weekend in Libya and is currently en route to the United States to stand trial amongst Republican calls that the suspect should be sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and locked up with other terrorists there.

Rescue personnel tend to 5-year-old Calista Dixon in Pilger, Neb., after two giant tornadoes bore down on the small town on Monday, June 16, 2014. The girl later died, as did a motorist, David A. One of the people facing charges after the car chase in Pottawatomie County, earlier this month, appeared in court Tuesday.   As KMAN has previously reported, the chase began after a traffic stop by a Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputy on the Oregon Trail Road, about three miles west of St. Mary’s.  The deputy learned at least one of the two occupants had an arrest warrant out of Missouri, but while obtaining this information, the vehicle fled.   Jason Gillispie (30), of Higbee, Missouri, was the passenger in the vehicle.  Attorney, Sherri Schuck indicates a plea was entered to obstruction and possession…

Update at 10:50 a.m: The number of outages has been reduced to under 700 now. Power was reported out for around 40 minutes.  Penzig said, a piece of equipment tripped, but it is unclear if a branch or wildlife is the reason. Original Story: Riley County Police indicate there are several traffic lights out around Manhattan, including at the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Kimball Avenue.  Officers are currently on scene.
