The blue ribbon school gala was held Friday evening at the Ogden Community Center. State budget issues, the Kansas highway fund, education and water were just a few of the topics covered during Saturday morning’s legislative coffee held at Sunset Zoo. Four area legislators participated in the event:  Representative of the 51st District, Ron Highland; 66th District Representative, Sydney Carlin; 51st District Representative, Ron Highland; and 67th District Representative, Tom Phillips. The Manhattan High basketball teams were in a tough environment on Friday night at Hayden High school where Centennial League title implications were on the line in both the girls’ and boys’ games. The Manhattan High girls (14-4, 8-3) led after one quarter 11-5, but after that it was all Hayden. MHS was outscored 25-9 in the second quarter as the Wildcats (12-5, 7-4) took a 30-20 lead at the half and they would hold on for the 58-52 win. It was the 90th anniversary of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce, and it pulled out all the stops to celebrate the occasion at the Hilton Garden Inn Convention Center on Friday night.
