Department heads and outside agencies continue to make budget requests to Riley County Commissioners this week. Several presentations were planned for Monday’s commission meeting. Community Corrections Director, Shelly Williams shared her hopes for the coming year for three different funds: adult services, juvenile services, and juvenile supervision fees. She mentioned she expects an increased need for services in the coming years, as another magistrate judge will possibly be needed in the near future as well. Two seperate cases involving the same Manhattan man were brought before Riley County District court on Monday morning as he faces five felony charges, and one misdemeanor. 30-year-old Jerred Snyder is accused of several major crimes including kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and possession of stolen property from an incident prosecutors say occurred on April 6, 2014. Authorities say Snyder forced Richard Rothfuss to drive him to another location at gunpoint. According to police Snyder proceeded to tie Rothfuss up with a tow rope before aquiring his ATM card information, and driving away with Rothfuss’s 2014 Chevy Silveraldo Snyder faces charges for…
Bruce Weber’s Wildcats will play eight non-conference games at Bramlage Coliseum during the first two months of the upcoming season. K-State will conclude that slate with a previously announced New Years’ Eve date against SEC foe Georgia, and will also host Bradley on December 9th. Washburn will help K-State open the season with an exhibition tilt on November 9th. The rest of the opponents will be Southern Utah, Kansas City, Omaha, Savannah State, and Texas Southern. Riley County Extension held its 26th Annual Garden Tour Sunday, which featured six locations around town including the KSU Gardens. “For the Tour, 75 degrees and sunny with the occasional cloud cover. It’s just a beautiful day,” said Scott McElwain, director of the KSU Gardens. The KSU Gardens features a cottage garden, which is full of perennials and woody ornamentals, as well as fruits, vegetables and herbs. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Correctional officers were searching for a minimum security inmate who was reported missing from his work site over the weekend. The Hutchinson News reports 43-year-old Christopher Ward was discovered missing around 5:30 p.m. Saturday from his work site at Cal-Maine Industries. The Hutchinson Correctional Facility inmate was incarcerated for convictions for burglary, theft, aggravated burglary, fleeing and eluding, and aggravated escape from custody. The convictions were in Butler and Sedgwick counties, and Ward was due to be released in just over two years. Ward is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 181 pounds.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Student government leaders at the University of Kansas say they are disappointed that the university is shifting some prized seats in Allen Fieldhouse from students to donors after the Student Senate eliminated a $25 student fee. The Lawrence Journal-World reports the university’s athletics department is moving students from seats behind the bench and near the tunnel where Kansas basketball players take the floor and letting donors have them.
