The election for Pottawatomie County Commissioner of District One is scheduled for August. Current Commissioner Gary Yenzer has been challenged by Dee McKee, a last minute filing, as KMAN recently reported. Yenzer has served as the County Commissioner for the last four years. Two arrests were made following the execution of a search warrant in Junction City early Friday morning. Steven Simpson, 24, and Bethany Johnson, 25, both of Junction City, face a variety of charges, with Simpson charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Both face charges of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and endangering a child. They were confined at the Geary County Detention Center pending first appearance in Geary County District Court. The search warrant was executed in the 2600 block of Strauss Boulevard after a month-long investigation by the Junction City-Geary County Drug operations group.
A domestic battery-related arrest was made by Riley County Police at approximately 7:30 PM Thursday in Ogden. Police responded to a complaint of a heated altercation between persons known to each other. Alvin Mason, 30, of Junction City was arrested for domestic battery, criminal damage to property, intimidation of a victim or witness, as well as two warrants for failure to appear, with the original offenses of domestic battery and driving while suspended. This arrest came after Mason reportedly damaged a cell phone which belonged to the 25-year-old female victim while she was on the phone with 911 reporting the domestic battery. …
The 2014 K-State season opener is still a little less three months away, and season tickets are sold out in June for the second consecutive season. 35,000 season tickets have been sold, and 500 people are already on a waiting list for the 2015 season. Single game tickets for the seven home games at Bill Snyder Family Stadium will go on sale this Wednesday at kstateports.com, and information on ticket availability for each game will be released on Tuesday morning. All seven games are expected to sell out, and push the current sellout streak to 20 games.

(AP) Yordano Ventura threw six innings in his return from a sore elbow, and the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 Thursday night and end a string of eight straight home losses to their in-state rivals. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) The Kansas City Royals selected TCU left-hander Brandon Finnegan with their first-round pick in Major League Baseball’s first-year player draft Thursday night. Scouts are divided on whether Finnegan projects as a starter or reliever. The 5-foot-11 junior dealt with a stiff shoulder this past season, raising concerns about his durability. Finnegan’s fastball has been clocked in the upper 90s, though it tends to sit between 90 and 95 mph. He also has a curveball and slider that are both developing.
