A 31-year-old Manhattan man was arrested by Riley county Police Wednesday afternoon on a warrant for motion to revoke probation. Steven Breese’s warrant from Shawnee County had “no bond” attached to it. Breese was confined at the Riley County Jail at the time of this report after being arrested near the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. and Walters Drive. And RCPD filed a report for fleeing or attempting to elude an officer after a subject with a bench warrant fled from a traffic stop. The subject is known to police and an investigation continues. Kiel Mangus has been named Assistant City Manager for the City of Manhattan effective Monday, July 14. Ron R. Fehr, City Manager, announced the appointment Thursday. The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2014 inductees. The class will consist of ten members, including three with K-State ties. Riley native and former K-State and Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds will be inducted. Dodds was a standout in track and field as a Wildcat athlete and also spent 13 years as the program’s head coach before taking over as AD. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Royals general manager Dayton Moore says he hinted to George Brett a couple of weeks ago about the Hall of Famer reprising his role as interim hitting coach for the struggling franchise. Moore says Brett told him that he had “a lot going on” this summer. Updated Thursday afternoon: Details have been released regarding a two county chase KMAN first told you about early Thursday. Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat tells KMAN the chase began Wednesday afternoon at about four when a white pickup with a freezer in the back was stopped by a Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Deputy on the Oregon Trail Rd, about 3 miles West of St.Marys. During the stop the Deputy learned that at least one of the two occupants of the vehicle had an arrest warrant out of Missouri. Updated 5:30 a.m. Thursday: A report of a structure fire with occupants trapped was called in at 615 Leavenworth Street shortly after 8:30 Wednesday night. Upon arrival, Manhattan Fire Department crews found a two-story apartment building with heavy smoke and fire showing from the first floor. Two occupants were rescued from a second floor window by another resident of the building and another occupant was helped off the roof by members of the Riley County Police Department, prior to Fire Department arrival. One occupant was transported to the hospital by Riley County Emergency Medical Service with minor injuries. …
Prior to prom season, the Riley County Police Department helped perform a mock car crash for Manhattan High School students to view. This was in the hopes to show students the dangers of drunk driving and texting while driving. During Wednesday evening’s Manhattan Ogden USD 383 school board meeting, MHS student, Haley Heaton spoke about her concerns with these demonstrations during the citizen comment portion of the meeting. Heaton described the mock car crash as “insensitive”, as many students have dealt with similar traumatic situations recently. She mentioned two MHS student deaths in particular-Brett Bolton who was killed in 2012…
