Under Kansas Statute, a school board can choose to adopt a resolution authorizing a local levy for capital outlay expenditures for a period of time as determined by the Board of Education. The maximum mill rate limit for the capital outlay fund is eight mills. This was the major topic of discussion during Wednesday evening’s USD 383 Manhattan Ogden School Board meeting. On Wednesday at noon, Jim Sherow officially filed as a Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress, 1st Congressional District of Kansas. A Manhattan man faces several charges, including aggravated indecent solicitation of a child, following his arrest late Tuesday afternoon. Junction City Police reported the arrest of Trevor Triffet, 20, on charges which also include electronic solicitation and sexual exploitation of a child. The JCPD report indicatesTriffet was arrested shortly before 4:30 p.m. in Manhattan. JCPD Lt. Jeff Childs tells KMAN the case involved electronic devices used for communication, and included pictures and text messages that were sent. The victim is described as a 12-year-old female. Andre Rienzo limited the Royals to two runs and five hits over six innings. He struck out a career-high eight. The Royals’ record dropped to 5-15 against American League Central opponents. The Wamego City Commission heard the annual reports from two entities. At Tuesday’s meeting, Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Chair Chris Hupe went over the highlights of 2013. He said the CVB had another solid year with the expansion of a local motel and overall community growth. He said Wamego may be small in population, but in the world of tourism, Wamego has become mighty. The Oz Museum had 30-thousand registered visitors, with 18-thousand out-of-state, 11-thousand within the state and over 1-thousand international visitors in 2013.
