The Manhattan City Commission discussed the direction for current and future improvements to City Hall and Peace Memorial Auditorium. As part of its vote to expand City Hall, the Commission will work with the community to fund a war memorial in the foyer of the auditorium and renovations to its stage. Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium expressed its desire Tuesday, to assist the City in all fund raising efforts and community outreach. City staff will coordinate with Bruce McMillan Architects, and Friends of Peace Memorial Auditorium to develop design ideas for the foyer and stage.

A mere two weeks after the Riley County USD 378 School Board narrowly approved his resignation, embattled Superintendent Brad Starnes has a new job lined up. Starnes confirmed to KMAN Tuesday afternoon published reports that he will be the new Superintendent at USD 329 in Wabunsee County, a district that includes schools in towns like Alma and Paxico. Starnes submitted his resignation earlier this month to the USD 378 Board amid some friction between his office, some board members and some members of the community. Onaga police are currently investigating a bomb threat that took place late this morning at Onaga High School. According to Onaga Police Chief Daniel Costlow, the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department received word of the threat at 10:42 a.m. Tuesday morning. The city chose to evacuate both the school and hospital as a precaution. Costlow said police have no reason to believe there is any validity to the threat at this time and that they’re currently questioning a person of interest in the incident. Sheriff Greg Riat says a boy under the age of 14 was arrested then released to his parents after being booked.
