The mother of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old whose fatal shooting by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida provoked a national race and justice debate, will speak at Kansas State University at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. “We are all Trayvon” will be an educational and thought-provoking event, said Brandon Clark, coordinator of the event and program assistant for the university’s diversity office. K-State point guard Leti Romero is seeking a transfer following a freshman season in which she earned second team all big 12 honors for the Wildcats. The native of Las Palmas, Spain tells the Topeka Capital-Journal that she’s being “blackmailed” by the school, as they have refused her request for a transfer.  Romero says she gave new Wildcat coach Jeff Mittie a chance, but after a month, she decided she wasn’t comfortable anymore at K-State. K-State men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber told the guys on “Wildcat Insider” on NewsRadio 1350 KMAN a few weeks back that he wanted to schedule a BCS school for a game at Bramlage Coliseum next season.  Now it appears Weber is holding true to his word. The Athens Banner-Herald is reporting that the Cats and Georgia will play a home-and-home series the next two seasons, starting with a December 31st, 2014 date in Manhattan.  The return trip to Athens would be December 22nd, 2015.  Georgia has signed off on the deal, while K-State is still finalizing its end of the contract. Four runs came home in the top of the first inning for K-State in Lincoln on Wednesday night with a two-run double by Shane Conlon and RBI singles from Tyler Stover and Blair DeBord, and the Cats were already thinking about a season sweep of rival Nebraska.  But, the Huskers stormed back with 10 runs of their own in the first five innings en route to a 14-5 victory at Hawks Field to salvage the non-conference series. KMAN has been telling you about the shooting that took place in Overland Park on Sunday.  The third and final victim in the shooting was recently identified, and she is the mother of a K-State student. Terri LaManno is the mother of three children-one of whom is Gian LaManno, a student at Kansas State University’s A.Q Miller School of Journalism and Mass Communications and is moving through his advertising sequence. HOUSTON (AP) Rookie Yordano Ventura threw seven solid innings for first major league win to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Omar Infante homered and drove in two runs for the Royals. The Wamego City Commission recognized a young poster contest winner.  At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page announced  a special recognition proclamation.  As an ongoing member of the National Arbor Day Foundation,the Kansas Chapter created the Kansas Arbor Day Poster Contest for children, and ten-year old Dacey Vanderbilt, daughter of Andrew and Sara Vanderbilt, submitted the winning entry from the North Central District of Kansas.   The Proclamation was issued to officially compliment and recognize Dacey on her achievement in winning the contest.
