Thursday’s Riley County Commission meeting featured a short agenda, as only three updates were scheduled to take place. Planning and Special Projects Director, Monty Wedel presented an update on Steve Springer’s proposal. The county owns a portion of land adjacent to Springer’s property, therefore the county planning department has been looking into a right of access across the county’s property. After researching the history of the property, Wedel said they could not find any easement or right-to travel. While a sixth grader is obviously way too young to drive, a special sixth grader at Bergman Elementary school is getting recognition by a local car dealer. Shailyn Russell will be presented with the Ed Schram Legacy “Drive for Success” Award Friday, with a variety of activities planned in addition to that presenation. Russell is pleased with the recognition and says it means a lot to her to get something so special for what she does in class and around other people. A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper injured earlier this week in the Wichita area is a former Kansas State Football player. While KMAN told you of the injury Wednesday, the name of the trooper has just been released–and he has been identified as DaVon Brame (36). Brame was a line-backer for Kansas State from 1997-2000. Brame is listed in fair condition Thursday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He had been critical when he was first taken there Tuesday.Brame was injured Tuesday evening while sitting in his vehicle after he pulled over a semi-trailer for an inspection in east Wichita.…
KMAN received word about an accident near the intersection of Kimball Avenue and Manhattan Avenue involving a City of Manhattan vehicle. Riley County Public Information Officer, Mat Droge reports there are no injuries as a result of this accident, but the vehicle remains in the roadway-as it won’t start. KMAN will bring you additional details as they become available.
K-State senior Ross Kivett became just the third player in school history to hit for the cycle on Wednesday night in a 12-6 victory over Nebraska at Tointon Family Stadium. Kivett blasted a solo home run in the first inning, cleared the bases with a two-run triple in the second, doubled in the third, and sent a single up the middle in the sixth. According to the Wichita Eagle, K-State will unveil plans at the annual Spring Game on April 26th for the $50 million renovation to the north end of Bill Snyder Family Stadium. A video will be shown at the game revealing the plans which include an overhaul of the current Vanier complex, with coaches offices, locker rooms and the weight room all getting a facelift. Plans call for several additions to the stadium in this project, a new academic center for all Wildcat student-athletes, a fan deck, new restrooms and a wider concourse. Kansas Jayhawks freshman center Joel Embiid said Thursday that he has yet to make a decision regarding the NBA draft. Embiid, in a Twitter exchange with Cliff Alexander, a top recruit who has committed to play for Kansas next season, was responding to a sourced report by Yahoo! Sports that the 7-footer was heading to the pros, where he is projected to be among the top picks in the draft on June 26.
