At Monday’s meeting, KASB (Kansas Association of School Boards) Research Specialist, Ted Carter, went over the high points of the five-year enrollment projection study for Wamego’s USD 320. Earlier this year, the Board authorized Superintendent Denise O’Dea to seek an enrollment study from the KASB to assist the Board in making a decision on the Districts facility needs going forward. A large crowd of dignitaries braved the cold for the Veteran’s Day Parade in Manhattan, and many followed the parade with a special Veteran’s Day ceremony held at the Wareham in downtown Manhattan. Several fire crews responded to a structure fire at 6234 Blue Jay Lane in Pottawatomie County just before 12:30 Tuesday afternoon. Early reports indicated a trailer home, within the Rocky Ford Trailer Park, was engulfed in flames. The initial dispatch was for units from Blue Township Fire-Rescue with automatic aid from Pottawatomie County Consolidated Fire District #1. Based on the information received, and the smoke column visible from a long distance, additional help was requested from Riley County Fire District #1 and Manhattan Fire Department as well for manpower and water supply. UPDATE-3:30 Tuesday: As KMAN has previously reported, shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday afternoon, the Wamego Police Department responded to a deceased individual call, in the 100 block of 3rd Street in Belvue. Deputies responded to the residence and did locate a deceased male inside. The individual reporting the deceased body was detained, and later in the evening-was arrested for murder. The victim has been identified as Larry Arand (70) of Belvue. Taken into custody in regards to this matter was Christopher Arand (36), also of Belvue. Christopher is the nephew of the victim.
