Wamego’s Waters True Value Hardware celebrates their Grand Reopening recently.  The Waters purchased the former Lichtenhan Hardware store in December of 2013.  Because of this purchase, the Waters True Value store in east Manhattan closed, moving the inventory to Wamego.  The Wamego True Value has undergone major resetting, and new signage changes in these past months.    According to President Jim Waters, they plan to carry on the tradition of the Lichtenhan Family, which had been in business in the area since 1907. The cost of living for an average Kansas State University student has once again increased at a greater increase then the average cost of living for an American according to recently released data.  The 2014 Student Price Index (SPI), compiled by the Kansas State University Economics Club, increased by 4.7 percent from 2013, significantly more than national averages over a comparable period. The SPI is based on prices collected on a bundle of goods a typical Kansas State University student purchases compared to the previous year’s prices. Wamego property owners returned to protest the City Commission. At Tuesday’s meeting, the Contractor Licensing Code issue was the draw after the issue was tabled at the October 7th meeting. Initially, Mayor Vic Enns allowed the group 30 minutes to address their concerns. The issue is the City’s Building Code ordinance recent change that requires landlords to hire licensed contractors to do any work on a property that requires a building permit on any property that is not their primary residence. KANSAS CITY, Mo.(AP) — Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants put a sudden stop to the Kansas City Royals’ perfect postseason roll. Bumgarner pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning, Hunter Pence homered early and the Giants showed off their October poise, shutting down the Royals 7-1 Tuesday night in the World Series opener. The Manhattan City Commission approved a franchise agreement Tuesday with IdeaTek to construct a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) in the City. The DAS will consist of 48 poles with small cabinets at the base. IdeaTek will pay Manhattan a one time fee of $1000 per pole and 5% franchise fee. The agreement includes a 5 year initial term and is renewable for 3 additional 5 year terms. IdeaTek is working with Verizon Wireless, but roaming agreements with other carriers would likely benefit the majority of end users in the Manhattan area. The State Supreme Court heard two cases with Riley County connections Tuesday morning, but it will likely be a while before an opinion comes back. As previously reported, Luis Aguirre is is appealing his life sentence in the September 2009 murders of his girlfriend and one year old son. Another case that was heard before the Supreme Court immediately after Aguirre’s was Domingo Soto, who also was sentenced to life in prison in Riley County District Court, with his sentencing in December of 2012.
