EUDORA, Kan. (AP) A train has injured two people on a bridge in northeast Kansas. Douglas County dispatchers say emergency personnel responded Saturday afternoon to the accident west of downtown Eudora. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that all train traffic was stopped while emergency vehicles parked on the tracks to attend to the victims. Two helicopters were called in to transport the victims to the University of Kansas Medical Center. The conditions of the victims weren’t immediately known.

Manhattan Firefighters extinguised a fire in the vacant storage units on McCall Road Sunday morning, where they have been training the last few weeks. Motorists were asked to avoid the area of Hayes Drive and McCall Road, with southbound traffic on Hayes shut down for a while. The lane was reopened shortly before 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

At 8:37 a.m. Saturday, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 737 Frey Drive for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, companies found a single-story residence with light smoke showing. Further investigation revealed a fire located near the furnace, that was contained by the first alarm assignment in approximately 20 minutes. A total of 15 firefighters responded on 5 fire apparatus with the last units clearing at around 11:50 a.m. The building is a single family dwelling and the occupants were at home at the time of the fire. It’s time to fall back one hour on Sunday. Daylight Savings Time will begin at 2 a.m. that day, so people are being encouraged to set back your clocks before you go to bed the night prior. Riley County Fire Chief, Pat Collins also encourages local residents to put new batteries in their smoke detectors. Since this needs to be done twice every year, Collins said doing this during Daylight Savings Time every year is a great way to remember to do it.
