TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Authorities say two people have been killed and three injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Kansas Turnpike west of Topeka. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that a sport utility vehicle driving from Omaha, Nebraska, rolled Saturday night near a highway exit. Turnpike officials said the vehicle was turning too fast while exiting the highway. The victims were identified as 22-year-old Janetta-Marie Niesha Godbolt and 20-year-old Arthur L Godbolt Jr. Three other occupants of the vehicle were taken to a hospital, but their conditions weren’t immediately available.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Boston slugger David Ortiz left the ballpark early due to what Red Sox manager John Farrell called a family emergency. “He’s fine. He got called away from this game,” Farrell said. “There was a family emergency that he had to attend to and he jumped on a flight late this afternoon. (AP) Jeremy Guthrie retired the final 17 batters he faced, Omar Infante had three hits and drove in two runs, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Boston Red Sox 7-1 on Saturday night. Manager Ned Yost overhauled his batting order and got immediate results. The Royals scored seven runs for the first time since Aug. 19, a span of 22 games. Freshman Kylee Zumach and sophomore Brooke Sassin powered the Wildcats (9-1) with 15 and 14 kills, respectively. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Republican Senator Pat Roberts’ re-election campaign has posted an online ad attacking independent candidate Greg Orman as a liberal pretending to be conservative. But Orman’s campaign demanded Friday that Roberts’ team remove the ad because it edits audio from their recent debate at the Kansas State Fair. Orman spokesman Sam Edelen called the audio “fake”.

The Color Run is described as the “Happiest 5K on the Planet”, and is currently on it’s Kaleidescope Tour.  The tour stopped in Manhattan Saturday morning, and several volunteers could be seen around the east side of Bill Snyder Family Stadium assisting with the event. Runners are instructed to arrive to the event wearing white t-shirts, and are even provided white t-shirts on site as well.  Throughout the 5K, there are different color stations where runners get dowsed in paint powder.  Once they reach the finish line, the runners have purple, pink, yellow and blue on their once-clean shirts.
