A double wide mobile home at 212 Ninth Street in Ogden was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN firefighters were on the scene for most of the afternoon, with the fire reported at about 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, with the fire destroying the structure and contents, for an estimated loss of $100,000. The owner is listed as Doris Murphy of Great Bend, with the resident identified as Amber Colin. Colin was not home at the time, but a baby-sitter was, with four to five occupants. Although the 2014 primary election was held last week, the next step of the election process took place during Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting. After every primary and general election, an election canvass is held.  This allows election staff members to provide recommendations on which ballots should count, which should be rejected, and which should only be partially counted. Elections Supervisor, Jolene Keck informed the commission this was the first year that all polling locations utilized iPad e-poll books.  Keck said this seemed to go very well, and it helped cut down on the number of provisional ballots. On Monday afternoon a Manhattan man who recently fired his defense lawyer was before Riley County court for a pretrial hearing. 30-year-old Jerred Snyder appeared with his new defense lawyer Jillian Waesche-Seaton before Judge John Bosch, and requested a continuance in his case.  Waesche-Seaton informed the court that Snyder had agreed to allow her more time to catch up on the case, and enable her to mount a better defense against the charges facing Snyder.  Snyder voiced his agreement to the Judge to affirm the decision to waive a speedy trial. Garden City Community College head coach Matt Miller tells KMAN that linebacker D’Vonta Derricott has now graduated from Garden City, is eligible to play for K-State and should be headed to Manhattan late Monday or Tuesday. Derricott is the final of four junior college recruits that K-State has been waiting on since the start of fall camp. Linebacker Isaiah Riddle, offensive tackle A.J. Allen and defensive tackle Terrell Clinkscales arrived late last week. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating what appears to be another attempted theft/scam. In this incident, the reporting party received two phone calls that showed up on their caller ID as being from the St.Marys State Bank. One of these calls came in on August 5th at about 2:40 p.m. The reporting party in this incident answered the call and heard a recording stating “there is not a problem with your account” and “to stay on the line so that someone could speak to you about lowering their credit card interest rate”. For a fifth straight season, K-State’s game against Kansas in Manhattan will be featured on ESPN’s “Big Monday.” The game will tip off at 8:00 P.M. on February 23rd, 2015. It’s the only game this season that the Wildcats will have on Big Monday. It will be the 11th Big Monday game that K-State has hosted at Bramlage Coliseum. The Riley County Police Department has released the report on results from a saturation patrol that occurred over Saturday night into the early morning hours on Sunday. According to reports the patrol resulted in three driving under the influence arrests, and one of those arrests also netted a drug possession charge. RCPD further thanked the Kansas Department of Transportation for funding the operation which involved four RCPD officers.
