On Thursday afternoon the Riley County Police department assaulted several members of the news media…. Those who signed a waiver anyway for a demonstration of the police force’s use of TASER platforms within the community. One of the community members also stepped up to experience the effects of TASERs. After a long interview process, a new Riley County Information Technology/GIS Director has been selected. According to Human Resources Director, Cindy Volanti, the county commission made the decision to select current Director of IT Production Services at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Kevin Howser as the new IT/GIS Director.  Although the decision was made a week ago, the action form was signed by the commission during Thursday’s meeting, that officially approved the new hire. K-State was picked to finish third in the Big 12, behind Oklahoma and Baylor, by the media on Thursday. The Wildcats beat out Texas by a single point, with 377 points overall, in the poll. It’s the highest K-State has been picked since the Big 12 started round robin play in 2011. Last season the Wildcats finished fifth in the league after being picked to finish sixth by the conference media. Oklahoma racked up 47 of the 56 first place votes to finish first in the poll. An Ogden man faces several charges following his arrest by Riley county Police early Thursday morning. Steven Meredith, 28 was taken into custody while in the 400 block of Walters Drive in Manhattan at about  12:05 AM. Meredith was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear as well as additional offenses of fleeing and eluding, interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended driver’s license.   Meredith’s bond was set at $20,000.   Police also arrested Bridget Gakle, 29, of Ogden for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Gakles’ bond was set at…

The only new item on Wednesday night’s Manhattan Ogden USD 383 School Board meeting agenda involved a student privacy policy.  This is a mandatory change handed down by the state, and Superintendent, Bob Shannon provided background on the topic. The policy was passed by the legislature, and involves privacy policies for student grades.  Shannon said the final document is not ready yet, but he expected to present the full policy in three weeks.
