TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A Shawnee County jury has found a 39-year-old Topeka man guilty on dozens of counts of sexually exploiting children. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports Jason Hachmeister was convicted Thursday on 105 counts of sexual exploitation of children. He was found not guilty on three counts of the same charge. Hachmeister’s trial began Monday. Prosecutors said Hachmeister possessed 108 illegal photographs of children in sexually explicit conduct. Defense attorney Jim Chappas said Shawnee County prosecutors failed to prove Hachmeister had committed the crimes. A Manhattan man convicted of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery, was sentenced Thursday afternoon in Riley County District Court. Judge John Bosch sentenced Matthew Wilson, 43, to life in prison for the 1st degree murder of Fort Riley Soldier Michael Lowery, 155 months for the Attempted First Degree Murder of Dustin Ferguson, 155 months for the Attempted First Degree Murder of Joel Solano and the Aggravated Battery of both Christine Kim and Alexya Mailea. The name of the shooting suspect in the Quality Inn disturbance, that occurred Tuesday morning, has been released. Dustin Monroe (33), of Wamego, was charged Thursday with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm in an occupied building or dwelling, and one county of felony criminal damage to property. His bond has been set at $250,000. If he is unable to make bond, he will make another appearance in Pottawatomie County District Court on December 17th.
ESPN.com is reporting that Texas Tech starting quarterback Baker Mayfield will transfer from the school after meeting with coach Kliff Kingsbury on Tuesday. Mayfield cites a “miscommunication” with the coaching staff as his reason for leaving Tech. The Austin, Texas native is a true freshman walk-on and would still need to get a release from the school to transfer. Mayfield started eight games for the Red Raiders as he missed four contests mid-season due to injury. He passed for 2,315 yards with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
