K-State senior middle blocker Kaitlynn Pelger was named an AVCA All-Midwest Region Honorable mention selection. Pelger was the only player to rank among the Big 12’s top 10 for kills, blocks and aces per set this season.  Pelger was one of 19 Big 12 players across two different regions to be represented on the All-Region teams. The Olathe native was named to the AVCA All-Central District team and an honorable mention all-American in 2011 and 2012. Pelger finished her K-State career fourth on the all-time kill list.

Riley County Police Department Director, Brad Schoen conducted a press conference Tuesday afternoon to release additional details about the disturbance from earlier that morning at the Quality Inn. As KMAN previously reported, the incident took place just after 6 o’clock that morning at 150 East Poyntz Avenue, and the 911 call indicated shots being fired. The mother of a man reportedly shot near the Quality Inn in Manhattan early Tuesday morning contacted KMAN, indicating her son had been lifeflighted after a domestic altercation at that location on East Ponytz Avenue. The woman identified herself as Linda Kinyon, and talked about her son, who she says is a contractor in Wamego and in his 30’s. She describes her son as hard-working, and with two beautiful children. (AP)   Sporting Kansas City captain Jimmy Nielsen is retiring, two days after making a pair of saves during penalty kicks against Real Salt Lake to help his team win its first Major League Soccer’s championship since 2000. The 36-year-old Nielsen, MLS’s goalkeeper of the year in 2012, spent four years with Kansas City after playing in England for Millwall (1994-95) and Leicester (2007-08), and in Denmark for AaB Aalborg (1995-07) and Vejl (2008-10). He set Kansas City’s team goalkeeping records for games (128), wins (57) and shutouts (45).

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A 30-year-old Manhattan man has pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact in a fatal arson. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says in a release that Gavin Taylor Hairgrove pleaded guilty Monday for his role in a Feb. 6 fire at a Manhattan apartment building. Vansanta Pallem died as a result of inhaling gases from the fire. Grissom’s office says Hairgrove admitted to being present when three co-defendants talked about what to do to keep the Riley County Police Department from searching an apartment where two of the co-defendants lived. Update 9:45 a.m. East Poyntz has been opened, and traffic can now travel on the road. Updated 8:25 a.m. Riley County Police and law enforcement personnel from surrounding areas responded shortly after 6:00 this morning to the Quality Inn and Suites at 150 East Poyntz Avenue for a disturbance call which indicated acts of violence. Shortly after arrival, RCPD officers managed to get the suspect in custody with no injuries to any personnel or bystanders. Well known Manhattan Civic Leader and Political Stalwart Charles Hostetler has died. The Manhattan Mercury reported in Monday evening’s edition that Hostetler passed away on Sunday at the age of 75 after a year-long battle with cancer. Hostetler had been well known throughout the community as well as in the insurance and banking industries and was also an influential figure in both Local and State politics.
