A 49-year-old Manhattan man was killed in a truck/bicycle accident Thursday evening. According to police reports Mark Jilka was riding a bicycle when he was struck from behind by a Dodge Pickup on K-177 shortly after 7 p.m. According to the Kansas Highway patrol, the pickup, driven by Derik Kesler, 32, Rossville, was also southbound on the right shoulder when the accident occurred. The bicyclist came to rest in a ditch, with the truck remaining on the shoulder. Kesler was not injured. On Friday morning the Kansas Court of Appeals upheld a ruling by Riley County Judge David Stutzman on a local case involving a Manhattan man. Micheal Combs was convicted in October of 2012 for having child pornography on his computer. The case was brought forward after a search warrant in an ongoing investigation involving the possession of child pornography and was executed by the Riley County Police Department Internet Crimes against children Unit and the Special Investigations Unit. Combs was sentenced in January 2013 by Judge Stutzman after serving almost a year in jail to 36 months of probation in which…
A reversal of fortunes for Kite’s Bar and Grill after being censured by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division of the Kansas Department of Revenue (ABC). The ABC suspended Kite’s liquor license for four weekend days due to a minor obtaining or possessing alcohol. The citation stems from an alleged incident in December of 2010 after Riley County Police Department officer Neil Ramsey reported finding a young woman in possession of alcohol within the establishment. A Junction City man was taken into custody by Riley County Police on several warrants Thursday afternoon. Jason Oder, 32, was arrested at approximately 4:25 PM by police at the Riley County Police Department. Oder was arrested on six motion to revoke probation warrants, with original offenses including operating a vehicle while declared to be a habitual violator, possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property, possession of methamphetamine, and driving while suspended or Revoked, no liability insurance and no registration. A Riley County Police official is getting national recognition. RCPD Administrative Captain Tim Hegarty has been inducted into the Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame. This nomination and induction comes after his role in forming what is now the department’ s use of evidence-based policing strategies. However, fort officials say the report released Thursday is a worst-case scenario and the reductions aren’t likely to be as severe as predicted.
