Kimball Avenue at the Grand Mere roundabout will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday, July 20 through 5 p.m. Monday, July 21. City of Manhattan Street crews will be repairing the failing concrete joints between the panels within the roundabout. Motorists will have to use alternate routes around this intersection of Kimball Avenue during the repair. Alternate routes for eastbound traffic include Anderson Avenue to Hudson Avenue or K-113. For westbound traffic, motorists should use Hudson Avenue and then take Anderson Avenue to reach necessary destinations. Command of the Irwin Army Community Hospital on Fort Riley has changed hands. During a ceremony Wednesday morning at Calvary Parade Field on the fort, Col. Barry Pockrandt passed the reins to incoming commander Col. Risa Ware. The commander at Fort Riley is in charge of Irwin Army Community Hospital, the Warrior Transition Battalion, two clinics in the Custer Hill area or the fort, and Veterinary Services. The command has nearly 2,000 employees including Soldiers, Department of the Army civilian employees, and civilian contractors. Col. Pockrandt has been commander of the facilities since July 2012. The Davey O’Brien Foundation released the preseason watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, it’s presented annually to the best quarterback in college football. Last year’s winner was Jameis Winston and he’s back on the list again this season with 38 other quarterbacks. Riley County Police are currently looking for a custom built motorcycle that was taken without it’s owner’s permission. Officers issued a press release Tuesday regarding the missing bike. On July 8th, police responded to an address outside of Manhattan, where a victim reported that sometime in July an unknown subject took possession of the motorcycle valued at $20,000. The motorcycle is described as a 2003 red, silver and chrome special construction motorcycle with rigid frame and leather seat with stitching. The Manhattan City Commission unanimously voted Tuesday to accept a grant offer of $5.3 million from the FAA for Phase II of the Terminal Expansion Project at Manhattan Regional Airport. The City’s portion of the $7.2 million Phase II project is roughly 1.9 million. City Administration have planned all along to pay for that portion with fees, however there’s one slight issue with that strategy. The annual debt service for both phases of the project will overlap in 2019 and total roughly $579 thousand per year, however the expected PFC collections will total just $268 annually. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Officials say two more cases of measles have been reported in Sedgwick County, bringing the total number of measles cases in Kansas this year to 11. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment said in a release Tuesday that one of the new Sedgwick County cases was in an infant too young to be vaccinated and one was an adult. Both cases are linked to other recently reported cases. KDHE says there have been eight cases reported in Sedgwick County and three in Johnson County this year.
