A Leonardville man appeared in Riley County District Court Monday afternoon for sentencing on four felony drug charges, and one misdemeanor. Tyson Strauss (30) made a final statement by saying he apologizes for wasting the state’s time and money.  He added, he used to race motocross and has been self-medicating, but he has since stopped and is on a better path. Prosecuting State Attorney, Barry Disney asked that Strauss be sentenced to 15 months for the primary offense. An armed robbery took place at Dara’s Convenience Store back in November of last year, and the man charged in the incident was sentenced in Riley County District Court Monday. Travis Bowman (23) was originally charged with felony level aggravated robbery on November 26th, and his bond was set at $75,000.   Bowman appeared in court, alongside his attorney-Phylemon Yau.  During Bowman’s final statement, he said “I’d like to apologize to the court for their time and resources, and the victim for any emotional damage I may have caused.”   Yau said Bowman was not taking his medication at the time,…

Mental health matters have been an on-going concern of several governmental groups in the Manhattan area, and the matter was a main topic of discussion at Monday’s Intergovermental meeting. Update at 1:30 p.m.: Riley County Police Public Information Officer, Mat Droge says the accident occurred between two vehicles-one car and one SUV.  No major injuries were reported and Droge commented, “it looked much worse than it ended up being thankfully”. Former K-State baseball player and longtime Washburn University coach Steve Anson passed away tragically on Sunday afternoon in a tree trimming accident, according to Washburn and Jefferson County authorities. The sheriff’s office says emergency responders were called to his home in Grantville at about 3:00pm, and Anson was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details of the accident were not immediately available. Anson was a four-year starter for K-State from 1973 until 1976, and won the Big Eight batting title in 1974 with a .439 average en route to first team all-conference honors. KANSAS CITY, Mo.(AP) — Fernando Rodney was good for another dozen pitches and the Seattle Mariners were good for a sweep. Rodney, working for the fourth straight day, earned his 21st save in 23 chances as the Mariners defeated the Kansas City Royals 2-1 on Sunday for a three-game sweep.
