KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)   Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith was cited for driving under the influence and careless driving after an officer witnessed him lose control and strike a light pole early Monday. According to a copy of the police report, Smith was attempting to make a turn in Kansas City’s Power & Light entertainment district when he struck the light pole around 12:30 a.m. The officer reported that Smith “appeared confused and began mumbling statements that I did not understand.” Smith declined medical attention. Fire destroyed a barn and the tractor inside it in southwestern Riley county Wednesday morning. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins tells KMAN no injuries were reported, but loss is estimated at $100,000. The location is in the 4200 block of Boller Road, and the property belongs to Phil Boller. The Manhattan City Commission conducted its 2nd work session Tuesday on the 2015 Budget. The latest proposal totals $134,481,305 which is an increase of roughly $3.7 million over least year’s budget. Additionally, the proposal includes an estimated mill levy impact of 1.65, which is a 1 mill decrease from the first version. That number translates to a property tax increase of more than 1.4 million dollars. A prominent Manhattan builder and developer has reportedly died in some type of water-related accident in the Bahamas. While details are not yet available, Russell Weisbender (63) died while on a vacation there. On Monday, June 23,a replacement project will begin on the U.S. 24 Bridge located over the Deep Creek drainage area located 1.05 miles east of Broadway Street in Belvue (Pottawatomie County). Project work includes replacement of the existing 33-foot wide concrete deck girder bridge structure with a 44-foot wide box bridge structure, complete with 12-foot driving lanes and 10-foot shoulders.
