Proposed new flood maps will reflect changes to local flood risks.  The Federal Emergency Management Agency released the new proposed flood maps recently. Planning and Development Director, Monty Wedel shared details about upcoming informational meetings, during Monday’s Riley County Commission meeting.  These meetings will be conducted in order to inform the public about the new flood plain maps, and answer any questions regarding flood risks, insurance, etc. The first meeting will be September 12th from 4-7 p.m. at the Manhattan Fire Department headquarters, and the second will be September 27th from 4-7 p.m. at the Manhattan City Commission Room. ————-…

Only a few items on their Monday agenda, the Pottawatomie County Commission had a few department updates to go over. Scott Schwinn, County Sanitarian and Transfer Station Supervisor, explained to the commission there has been some issues with people not properly maintaining their lagoons and therefore he wants to implement a campaign to get things changed.  Schwinn mentioned he’ll be sending out letter, doing inspections, and if need be he’ll be having the county attorney involved for legal action. The Big 12 Conference announced Monday morning that K-State and Texas will kick off at 7:00pm in Austin on Saturday night, September 21st. The game between the Cats and Longhorns will be televised nationally by ABC for the second straight season. K-State extended their winning streak to five against Texas with a 42-24 victory last December that sealed up the 2012 Big 12 championship. The Big 12 Conference named K-State senior Tramaine Thompson as its special teams player of the week following his performance in the Cats’ 48-27 win over Louisiana on Saturday night. Thompson amassed 234 all-purpose yards, with 94 in kick returns, 94 in punt returns and 46 receiving. The Jenks, OK native took back the second half kickoff from the Ragin’ Cajuns 94 yards for a touchdown, had a 79-yard punt return that set up a one-yard plunge by Jake Waters, and caught two passes for 46 yards. North Dakota State shocked the college football world by knocking off K-State 24-21 to open up the 2013 season. Bison quarterback Brock Jensen threw for 165 yards and two touchdowns along with a rushing TD.  He led the game winning drive in the 4th quarter that lasted over eight minutes, as NDSU converted four consecutive third downs. AUTSIN, Texas (AP)   Texas has fired defensive coordinator Manny Diaz a day after one of the worst defensive performances in the history of the program. Longhorns coach Mack Brown announced the move in a statement Sunday, and says that former Longhorns defensive coordinator and Syracuse coach Greg Robinson will replace Diaz. Brown says: “Our performance on defense last night was unacceptable, and we need to change that.” BYU ran for 550 yards, the most ever allowed by Texas, in a 40-21 victory against the Longhorns on Saturday night.
