TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Topeka minister Tobias Schlingensiepen has won the Kansas Democratic primary for the right to challenge GOP incumbent Lynn Jenkins for her 2nd District U.S. House seat. Unofficial results Tuesday showed Schlingensiepen finished first ahead of Lawrence attorney Robert Eye and Ottawa farmer Scott Barnhart. None of the candidates had held elected office before, though Barnhart had previously sought state and county offices. Members of the Riley County Police Department executed a search warrant at 514 Kearney Street Apartment A in Manhattan in reference to the distribution of marijuana. Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, U.S. currency, and a firearm were seized during the search warrant. 19 year old Benson Jackson of the 500 block of Kearney was arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful acquisition of drug proceeds, no Kansas Drug Tax Stamp, and criminal use of a weapon. CHICAGO (AP) Bruce Chen outpitched Jake Peavy for his first win in six weeks, Billy Butler hit his career-high 22nd homer and the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 5-2 on Tuesday night. The White Sox had won 10 of 13 but saw their lead over Detroit in the AL Central shrink to a half game with the Tigers beating the New York Yankees 6-5 earlier in the night.
