The Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office is investigating a burglary and theft to a storage unit located at 225 McCall Road in Manhattan. This incident occurred sometime overnight nearly a week ago, Tuesday night. The victim reports the loss of tools in excess of $7,000.00.  Tools include a Milwaukee hole saw kit and pro press, Dewalt 1/2 inch right angle drill, table top tile saw, Craftsman 3 gallon shop vac, Husky air compressor, mini torch with oxygen/acetylene bottle, several drain machines and digital refrigerant scales. A Kansas State facility was evacuted for nearly three hours this (Monday) morning. KMAN’s Cathy Dawes has details Kansas State University’s public safety team and the Manhattan Fire Department cleaned up an acid vapor in Weber Hall around 8:30 a.m. this morning. Three student employees were affected and were taken to the hospital, as is the university’s standard procedure. Steve Galitzer, the university’s director for public safety, said an acid vapor was created after a student worker improperly mixed together two cleaning chemicals in the meats lab in Weber Hall. 1.) A 26-year-old man was arrested for Failure to Appear in Riley County.  Ryan Bohanan of Goddard, Kan.  was picked up in Segwick County for Failure to Appear in Riley County District Court. Bohanan’s bond was set at $10,000. 2.)Between 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jacob Haverkamp of Manhattan reported to the RCPD that his white, Honda CBR, had been kicked over. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Kansas Lottery officials say the holder of the state’s winning Mega Millions ticket has not come forward to claim a share of the $656 million jackpot. Lottery spokeswoman Cara Sloan-Ramos said Monday that no one has contacted the lottery about the prize from Friday’s drawing. The winning ticket was purchased in northeast Kansas, though lottery officials don’t plan to identify the store until the winner comes forward. HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) The Reno County Commission is scheduled to discuss restrictions on shooting at public access points along the Arkansas River. The issue will be discussed at the commission’s Tuesday meeting, although a specific resolution has not yet been written. It arose after a stray bullet believed fired from along the river flew through a window of a Nickerson home and landed on a couch next to a mother and her baby. No one was injured. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Douglas County authorities say one person died when a car was hit by a train north of Lawrence. The accident occurred early Monday near the entrance of Riverfront Park. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident scene is just west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-40 and 24-59. No other details were immediately available.

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting involving Wichita police. Police say the confrontation began early Sunday when they got a call of shots fired. When they intercepted the car, four suspects ran away. Police say shots were fired by an officer who confronted one of the suspects. That suspect was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. One of the other three suspects was captured.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Authorities have identified the five members of a Minnesota family killed when a motor home crashed in Kansas, sending 13 others to hospitals. The Kansas Highway Patrol identifies the dead as 24-year-old Melissa Kerber and 25-year-old Tom Kerber of New Prague, Minn., and 10-year-old Jessica Kerber, 14-year-old Joy Kerber and 12-year-old James Kerber of Jordan, Minn. Among the survivors, 46-year-old Pauline Kerber of Jordan, Minn., was in critical but stable condition Monday morning. She’s a widowed mother of 12. MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) Kansas State University is preparing an exhibit showcasing black newspapers and magazines. The exhibit is titled “Alternative Voices: Black Media and the Communities They Serve.” It will open with a panel discussion and formal event April 13 at the university’s Hale Library. The exhibit will remain on display through the end of the spring semester. The school says the exhibit will feature materials collected in the 1960s and 1970s by former faculty member Robert Bontrager. He used them in his course, The Black Press. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas attorney general’s office paid outside lawyers almost $597,000 through March to defend anti-abortion laws enacted last year. The office says it paid nearly $317,000 to Foulston Siefken, a Wichita firm helping defend a budget provision denying federal family planning dollars for non-abortion services to Planned Parenthood. The group has a federal lawsuit against the measure. The attorney general’s office paid almost $177,000 to Thompson, Ramsdell Qualseth, of Lawrence, to help defend health and safety regulations for abortion providers.
