It’s budget time again and at Tuesday’s Wamego City Commission meeting, City Manager Merl Page threw out dates and times for the Work Session and Public Hearing for the 2012 City Budget. It was decided the Work Session will be Monday, August 15th at 4:30 p.m. , with the Public Hearing set at 6 p.m. , also on the 15th. According to Page, the deadline for the Public Hearing is August 15th by state statute.
In other business, the Commission approved the purchase of new equipment for a cost of over 3-thousand dollars. According to Page, the City set all their equipment up on a rotation program , which has proved cost effective because they budget for equipment every year, and the rollover opportunity has come around again.
City Attorney Jake Pugh went over some elements of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Grant Agreement for the Highway 24 Corridor Project that will be undertaken soon in Wamego. Pugh feels the Commission needs to be aware of Right of Way encroachment and placement of gas tanks and hazardous waste sites issues, even though he doesn’t think they will be a problem. Page asked the Commission to authorize the Mayor to sign the KDOT agreement contingent on review by the City Attorney. Approval was given.
