Fort Riley soldiers return home this week

Soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division’s headquarters will return to Fort Riley this week.
According to a release from Fort Riley, more than 150 soldiers will be formally welcomed home and be reunited with loved ones at 12:30 a.m. Friday at Fort Riley. At the ceremony Big Red One leaders will uncase the division’s colors, signifying the completion of the unit’s deployment to Iraq.

This group is part of over 300 soldiers with the 1st Infantry Division headquarters stationed in Iraq and Kuwait who are expected to return this month.

By the end of the month, nearly 5,000 soldiers will have returned to Fort Riley from overseas deployments in 2017.

Over 800 troops with the 1st Combat Aviation Brigade returned from Afghanistan in April and 3,700 members of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team returned from South Korea beginning in late May.
