Manhattan High Hoops Sweep Topeka West


The Manhattan High basketball teams had no problem on Friday night on the road at Topeka West picking up a sweep.

The MHS girls led from start to finish in a 62-37 win over the Lady Chargers. The Lady Indians had three in double figures with Madison Mittie leading the way with 22 points. Gigi McAtee and Garrin Williams had 13 and 12 respectively. The MHS defense forced 34 turnovers and held Topeka West to just 25 total shot attempts in the game.

The MHS girls are now 10-4 overall, 5-2 in Centennial League play. They are a game back in the standings with Shawnee Heights, Hayden and Emporia all at 6-1.

The MHS boys handed Topeka West their worst loss of the season, rolling 68-41 to complete the sweep. Manhattan placed four in double figures led by Trevor Hudgins with 13 points. Gabe Awbrey finished with 12. Christian Carmichael and Robbie Ostermann each finished with ten points.

The MHS boys improve to 13-1 overall, 7-0 in league play. They hold a two game lead in the standings over Shawnee Heights, Highland Park and Seaman.

Next up a road trip to Shawnee Heights on Tuesday night.
