New Flint Hills center on target, under budget

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) Organizers say construction of the new Flint Hills Discovery Center is on schedule and under budget.

Bob Workman, director of the center, told The Topeka Capital-Journal that the $24.5 million, 35,000-square-foot building is expected to be finished by early November, and the discovery center will be opened to visitors in April.

The Flint Hills Discovery Center, a project of the city of Manhattan and its South End Redevelopment Project, will chronicle the geology, biology and cultural history of the Flint Hills through 10,000 square feet of interactive permanent exhibits, community programs and outreach activities.

The center also will serve as the tourism information center for the Flint Hills and Manhattan.
