Local health departments have opened signup lists for those members of the public wanting the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Riley County Health Department says it’s working to compile a list of names and contact information for those who would like to receive the vaccine once it becomes available. The distribution plan will be based upon a pre-determined phasing system created through guidance from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Anyone interested can sign up on the RCHD website, but signups can also be taken over the phone Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 785-565-6560.

Similarly, the Pottawatomie County Health Department says it has opened a signup form through its website. To sign up over the phone, call 785-457-1432.

Phase 1 of the vaccination schedule continues, and it’s unclear yet how soon vaccines will be readily available to the general to public.  Phase 1 includes health care workers, long term care facilities and emergency medical services. Phase 2 will include adults 65 and older, first responders, K-12 teachers and staff, licensed child care, preschools, after school care and child care licensing staff. Also included in Phase 2 are emergency shelters and domestic violence homes, adult group care homes, residential treatment centers, adult and child protective services as well as public transportation employees.
