After K-State grabbed an early 2-0 lead, Soloman Williams hit a solo homer in the top of the 6th as Cal State Bakersfield went on to a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats on Monday night at Tointon Family Stadium. K-State would get an RBI single from Tanner DeVinny in the first and a sac fly by Austin Fisher in the 5th, but only managed two hits beyond that point.
The Roadrunners tied the game in the 6th when Andrew Lojewski scored on a K-State error following a single by David Metzgar. Bakersfield took a 4-2 lead in the 7th when Mylz Jones grounded the ball to short with the infield drawn in, Fisher went for the double play from second to first. Jones beat out the throw at first, scoring Jordie Hein, and another Wildcat error on the play also allowed Max Carter to come home. An insurance run scored in the 8th for Bakersfield to put them up 5-2 on a double play.
Landon Busch struck out a career-high seven in five and one third innings, giving up two runs—one earned on five hits. Jake Fromson (1-1) took the first loss of his Wildcat career by giving up two runs—one earned on three hits in an inning of relief. Bakersfield righty Nick Rogowski (1-0) claimed the win in his first start of the season, giving up two runs on five hits and five walks.
Shane Conlon and Max Brown each had multi-hit efforts during K-State’s seven-hit display. Metzgar and Logan Trowbridge each had two hits for Bakersfield.
K-State drops to 22-19, and will go for a split with Bakersfield on Tuesday night at 6:30pm at Tointon Family Stadium. The BD4 Distributing/Cary Company pregame show starts at 6:00 on KMAN with Matt Walters and John Kurtz.
