Former K-State golfer Robert Streb shot a tournament-record eight under par 64 to claim the Watson Challenge at Loch Lloyd Country Club in Belton, Missouri. Streb, who’s ranked 72nd on the PGA Tour’s FedEx Rankings, had eight birdies and no bogeys to win the three-round event by five strokes.
He becomes the third man not named Tom Watson to win the eight-time major winner’s tournament, which determines the best golfer in Kansas City. Fellow former Wildcat standout Joe Ida claimed the title two years ago.
The Edmond, Oklahoma native recently moved to Shawnee, and donated the $10,000 prize back to the First Tee of Greater Kansas City.
Streb goes back out on the PGA Tour this weekend for the Travelers Championship.
