Wamego Honor Flight Comes Home

Wamego welcomed the Honor Flight home. A large contingent of family and friends gathered to welcome the 25 Veterans and 25 Wamego Honor Society student sponsors of this year’s Honor Flight late Wednesday night. As earlier reported on KMAN, each student was paired with a veteran for the trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the different war memorials. As each Veteran got off the bus, they were welcomed with applause and led to their families by their student sponsor. As Victor Claeys stepped off the bus, he was greeted with Happy Birthday. Today was Claeys’ 94th birthday.

This was the largest group of Wamego students to take the Honor Flight. According to KMAN’s Joyce Mermis, based on the stories from last year’s flight, the students indicated they learned so much from their respective veteran and had a great time.
