The Royals broke through for three runs in the bottom of the eight to rally past the Minnesota Twins for a 3-1 win in their home opener. Alcides Escobar doubled home the go-ahead run while Billy Butler and Alex Gordon also drove in runs in the decisive eight frame. Starter Ervin Santana went eight strong innings for Kansas City, and allowed just one run and four hits in his final seven innings pitched. The start earned Santana his first win as Royal. A very efficient offensive game for Garden Plain was too much for Riley County to overcome in a 57-35 loss in the opening game of the 3A state tournament. The Owls went 8 for 10 from beyond the arc while the Falcons knocked in just 6 of 22 three point attempts.
