City Commission talks Health Board withdrawal, budget

The withdrawal of the City of Manhattan from the Riley County Manhattan Health Board was a major item of discussion at last night’s special City Commission meeting. Several speakers involved with both the County and the Health Board came forward to provide their thoughts on the matter. Health Board President Brady Burton asked Commissioners to take some more time to allow the Health Board to prepare, while Health Department Administrator Chuck Murphy foretold several difficulties that the Health Board could face due to the split. In the end, Commissioners thought differently, voting to separate from the Health Board by a vote of 4 to 1.

Also on the agenda was a work session involving outside agency funding requests for 2012. Among those making requests were Social Services, aTa Bus, and Manhattan Arts Center to name a few. No action was taken on the issue.
