One of the more tragic incidents in his time in Afghanistan–that’s how former Manhattan resident Edward Faircloth describes the weekend crash of a helicopter shot down by a Tailban insurgent, leading to the death of 30 Americans and eight Afghans. Faircloth is serving as the Senior Advisor for the Afghan Ministry of Defense Public Affairs Office with the NATO training mission in Afghanistan.
But while he doesn’t want to minimize the tragedy, he notes it’s one of many in that part of the world. Faircloth tells KMAN there are some strong emotions, however
He says it won’t change the mission or cause any disruption in that regard. Faircloth describes the mood in Afghanistan as one of determination in this period of transition to the Afghan National Army taking the lead.
