    Riley County commissioner’s father dies

    Donald G. Guthals, father of commissioner David Guthals, died  Tuesday at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born August 31, 1928 in Elmo, Kansas.

    On May 29, 1950, Guthals married Helen Margaret Stover. They later moved to Elmo where Mr. Guthals taught at Carlton  grade school and Hope High School. Mrs. Guthals preceded Donald in death, passing on April 19, 2011.

    Guthals is survived by his two daughters, Karen Burkholder of Topeka, and Linda Whitt of Wichita; his two sons, Donald Frederick Guthals of Grand Island, Neb., and David Louis Guthals of Manhattan; and sister Mary Ann Foley of West Lafayette, Ind.

    Funeral services will be held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. Private burial will be in the church cemetery.
