Medicaid patients to be welcome at primary care clinic

0
By KMAN Staff on September 28, 2011 Local News

Riley County’s Primary Care Clinic will soon be accepting medicaid patients on a trial basis.

The Manhattan-Riley County health board passed the motion during Wednesday’s meeting. Health board president Brady Burton says the plan will become effective at the beginning of the 2012 calendar year.

“I think it’s going to be phased in,” Burton said. “I’m not sure on the number yet, but there will be ‘x’ amount of new patients taken in to start with.”

The preliminary estimate for the number of medicaid patients that would be taken was 500. That number would only call for a few minor staff adjustments.

The KansasHealth Policy Authority estimates that 3,855 Riley County/Manhattan residents who are eligible for medicaid.

The health department’s next meeting is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, October 26
