HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Former Kansas senator Bob Dole will attend the dedication of a bypass in Hutchinson that was named for him in 2004.

The Hutchinson News reports that Dole and his wife, Elizabeth, will meet the public Saturday afternoon at the Kansas Cosmosphere.

The $42 million bypass was built to funnel heavy truck traffic around Hutchinson and South Hutchinson.

Chamber of Commerce president Dave Kerr says the state plans to eventually build 13 miles of highway from the north end of the bypass to a point between Lyons and Sterling.

Dole has not been able to attend a dedication for the bypass since it was named for him in 2004. Kerr says Dole is traveling through Kansas for several events and was asked to come to Hutchinson to be honored.
