Fire destroyed a cabin-type structure in Riley County this past weekend. Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins indicates the fire at 20187 Vilander Road was reported at about 10:30 Saturday night. Riley County Fire chief Pat collins tells KMAN the fire was in the northern part of the county near the Marshall county line.
By the time firefighters arrived the structure had already collapsed into the basement, so they mainly were fighting a grass fire.
Collins indicates 35 firefighters responded.
Damage is estimated at $40,000 to structure and $20,000 to contents. Cause has not been determined and it will be difficult to do so, according to Collins.
