With this being the last meeting of 2011, the Wamego City Commission tied up loose ends. City Manager Merl Page asked the Governing Body to approve an amendment to a 2008 analysis of needed upgrades to the sanitary sewer system in the area of 2nd and Military Trail Road. The City re-evaluated the original Schwab-Eaton design and determined it needed modification due to continued growth in the area, which would cost an additional 2-thousand dollars. The amendment was approved.
In other business, Page said the City staff was evaluating different opportunities for transmission of the power supply because the current Westar agreement expires in May of 2012. Energy Management Group’s Greg Wright met with Commissioners at the Work Session and presented an opportunity to develop a new power pool with Westar. Since the application needs to be made by February 1st, Page asked the Commission to approve a letter of intent to participate in the wholesale-load transmission study, contingent on how many other communities choose to participate. Wright said there were other power pools established in Kansas, and he’ll work in developing a new pool to include Wamego.
Also at Tuesday’s Wamego City Commission meeting, Page passed out a four-page document of legal descriptions defining the corporate limits and boundaries of the City of Wamego. This form needs to be submitted to both the County and State to define the territorial limits of Wamego due to several annexations this year. Since nobody in the audience wanted to read the document, Page highlighted the additions to the city limits. The resolution was passed.
According to Page, the only major project ongoing is the Automated Meter Reading System due to be installed city-wide, but there are issues still up in the air and are working with the consultants to determine what will work within their agreement.
Several cereal malt beverage licenses were approved Tuesday night also.
The 2011 Wamego City Commission closed with Mayor Cliff Baughman extending wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.
