HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) Hutchinson Mayor Ron Sellers supports efforts to address the city’s deteriorating housing stock. But he says the city needs more urgency in its housing efforts.
Hutchinson is considering hiring its first housing director and creating a private fund to address the city’s housing.
But Sellers said Tuesday that some neighborhoods are deteriorating faster than the city can improve them, and he is concerned the city will lose more ground in the future.
The Hutchinson News reports Sellers commented during a session to discuss the Community Housing Trust, which trust would take private donations. The city would still manage state and federal grants.
The city’s housing commission has budgeted $1.38 million to fund five strategies for improving housing.
