In a complete about-face, the Kansas house voted down a measure it had tentatively approved Tuesday for Congressional redistricting.
The Capitol one plan failed 48-76 in a final vote Wednesday morning.
State Represenative Sydney Carlin of Manhattan had told KMAN news Tuesday afternoon she was pleased with the vote of 70 to 51 that day, but overnight some changes obviously were made and the measure was rejected.
The bill would have kept Manhattan, Riley and Pottawatomie Counties in the second Congressional district as they are currently. It would also have kept the Kansas City area in a single district but split the tight-knit, area of southeast Kansas in half between two districts.
House members had dropped Speaker Mike O’Neal’s proposal to split the Kansas City area between two districts.
