The lack of rain has landed the Little Apple with dry conditions this summer. Considering the sky cannot provide the water needed for grass, plants, flowers, crops, etc, it is logical that everyone must use their own water and sprinkler systems. Manhattan Public Works Director, Dale Houdeshell assures citizens they will not be running out of water, especially since the recent increase of the supply. He says four new wells were brought on line this year, increasing the water capacity from 20 million to 30 million gallons per day.
And allthough Houdeshell says our supply of water will hold out, it’s still important to try and cut down on water usage, adding we must think of our surrounding areas as well.
Houdeshell says “There are different amounts used on different days, but the water usage this year is up over last year.”
