A breakout of burglaries has some Manhattan residents taking precautions in a few residential areas.
Riley County Police Captain Tim Hegarty was asked about those burglaries during the press conference portion of the Riley County Commision meeting on Monday.
“We have had a series of burglaries that we believe to be related that started in April with other groups of burglaries in May and June,” Hegarty says.
Hegarty says the department has recently taken action.
“We’ve made conservative efforts to combat these burglaries,” Hegarty says. “The main thing is that people need to keep doors and windows locked.”
According to residents in the recently effected areas, burglars have tried to remove outside lighting when attempting to break into homes.
