In early June, Dennis Peterson Riley County Noxious Weed & Hazardous Waste Director, reported to Riley County Commissioners that his department would begin the process of no longer collecting E-Waste from the public starting in July.
Late last week, Peterson reported to Commissioners on the status of the transition.
“The switch over is going way better than I ever expected,” Peterson says. “We were averaging about 25 participants a week bringing us e-waste in the first two weeks of June and the last two weeks we had nine last week and four the week before.”
With the transition, Howie’s Recycling is now the only entity accepting E-Waste and the Hazardous Waste Facility began charging fees for those who refused to take their items to Howie’s.
The fee for those who insist on leaving their E-Waste items at the Hazardous Waste facility is ten dollars.
