KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) A northeastern Kansas man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison for selling exceptionally pure heroin blamed for at least two overdose deaths.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says 36-year-old Tyrone Ramsey, of Kansas City, Kan., was sentenced Tuesday for distributing and possession with intent to distribute heroin. He pleaded guilty earlier.
Prosecutors said Ramsey sold heroin for a drug trafficking ring that operated in the Kansas City metro area from late 2007 to May 2009. Investigators bought heroin from him several times, and found evidence that heroin he sold led to the overdose death of a woman in Atchison.
Authorities say many of the ring’s customers were prior users of prescription painkillers and methamphetamine.
