By KMAN Staff on January 13, 2013 Geary County, Local News, Riley County, Top Story

Update Monday morning at 8 a.m.:

Fire destroyed a home on McDowell Creek Road Sunday afternoon, with 47 firefighters from Riley and Geary Counties responding.

Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins indicates the call came in at 3:15 Sunday afternoon at 5650 McDowell Creek Road, which is an 1890 stone house with two additions. Mutual aid was called in with Geary County and Fort Riley assisting in hauling water.

The occupants of the home are identified as Tracy Sohnrey, his wife, and four children. They were not injured. The owner of the home was reportedly Sohnrey’s father-in-lawWayne Erickson.

Damage is estimated at $130,000 to $150,000 dollars, with the fire apparently starting in a woodstove.

Collins indicates firefighters were on the scene in the freezing weather until midnight.

    Update Monday morning:

Mcdowell Creek Road has reopened following the Sunday afternoon fire in the 5600 block. Still few details although the fire did involve a structure and there were no injuries. KMAN News hopes to get more details from Riley County Fire officials a bit later in the morning.

    ###

There are still very little details concerning a structure fire in the 5600 block of McDowell Creek Road that began in the early evening hours on Sunday.

Riley County Police have sent out a release stating no injuries have been reported from this blaze.

Motorists should still continue to avoid the area as McDowell Creek Road has been closed.

Again, KMAN will bring you details as they become avaible.

    *UPDATE*

Officials are saying McDowell Creek road is open to Interstate 70.
